The CD Òrain nan Rosach was released in 2006 and like the book of the same name, is the first CD which focuses entirely on Gaelic Song from Ross-shire.  Produced by well known Ross-shire musician Andy Thorburn, Fiona is accompanied by some of Ross-shire’s premier singers and musicians including; Julie Fowlis , Eamon Doorley, Lauren MacColl, Carol-Ann Mackay,  Katie Mackenzie, Jim Gaitens and Alpin Stewart. The 14 track CD features well known songs such as Mo Run Geal Og and lesser known gems such as Am Bata Uaine from Achiltibuie and includes a variety of styles from a rousing Hunting Song from Inverness Gaelic Choir, to the haunting a capella Thèid Mi Dhachaidh. The CD also features the Gaelic Medium pupils of Dingwall Primary School where Fiona teaches weekly. The CD is available from the usual outlets as well as online from Gaelic Books Council, Foot Stompin and from Fiona herself.  Lyrics and translations for the songs are available by clicking here. "On listening to this magnificent and beautiful album you find the purity of Gaelic song, rich in traditional variations, all through the medium of the beautiful voice of Fiona Mackenzie. The scope of her repertoire enhances a musical direction, which respects Gaelic song but also gives insight into Scottish music. She has a register of great melodic quality and intensity and this talented artist produces brilliant work, through remarkable acoustics. The splendour of the melodies reinforces the vision and spirit of a modern artist, whose voice resides in the stars and whose feet are planted solidly on the ground. In this album, you will find the evolution of Scottish song, where the inner beauty is unveiled in marvellous compositions. This is an artist inspired by harmony and elegance."

"The whole CD is a treasure.  It’s no often that every track appeals or that the CD is of the same high quality throughout.  It’s a pleasure to listen to this youthful, music, which undoubtedly, would appeal to the young Gaelic music student.  It’s ideal for promoting Gaelic amongst the young.  Well done.”
